Where are we... What are we doing... What's going on...

...we've had this question asked quite a few times recently. The answer is some what complicated, and I feel like I in particular have dodged a proper answer to this on a regular basis. So let me set the record straight...

WHERE ARE WE?
At the moment, the answer to this question is one of the main reasons we've been so quiet recently. We lost our Reverie HQ in Luton (yes we actually had a headquarters where we rehearsed, recorded and plotted... we didn't have a world map or anything or a big chair we sat on whilst stroking a cat in a bond villain way) which has been a HUGE spanner in the works. Not only was it our own place to create, hang out and rehearse, it was where we kept everything 'Reverie' and after 5 years, we had a lot of stuff! This is combined with the fact that as individuals we are spread over the UK, Beano is still living it up in Brighton, Gerard and I are in London, and Herron is still living the dream in Luton. Now this has been the status quo for a while and hadn't been a problem until now as all our gear is spread across these areas, and with out a single place to come together we've become a bit stuck! So we're on the look for a new hub!

WHAT ARE WE DOING?
Well thank god we live in the 21st Century and technology is AMAZING! We're still demoing ideas... admittedly on our own, but keeping everyone in the loop via the internet. We are big fans of YouSendIt. It's become a great way of sharing recorded ideas and also given us a fresh way of creating. The last couple of years, due to the luxury of our own space, have seen us jamm our way into tunes on the fly... playing off each other, demoing the results and bringing it all together.

We were also plotting another move which I can't go into too many details at the moment as with all that's happened has been stalled somewhat. Watch this space.

WHAT'S GOING ON?
So in other news... Gerard is getting married at the end of July! If you see him in the street feel free to give him a congratulations! We recently had the stag do and Harry and Steve Gemmell were there - it was great to have Reverie old and new, drinking, some wrestling and shooting... of course!

as the nights draw in...

We've had a productive couple of weeks since the release of our mini-album. When we planned the release date we were hoping to do a big launch gig in Luton, I think we were imagining something at the Hat Factory or The George II, but hey ho as things turned out we didn't manage to sort either... mainly because although we had pencilled the release date months in advance, it really crept up on us and October ended up being one of the busiest months for us all personally! Typical!

So we've been busy plugging the release, albeit a tad later than hoped. Brian Heywood in the Luton News gave us a good mention... although described us as 'Metal Band Reverie'... we're putting it down to a "typo" as we are pretty far from metal. We've definitely gone down the shoegaze path with avengence and left a lot of the hectic/ 65 Days of Static abrasive stuff behind, opting for a more soundscape approach.

After that little mis-directing write-up in the Luton News we were lucky enough to be asked to come onto the BBC Three Counties Radio for the BBC Introducing show to talk about the release. Even more luckily we had one of the tracks played on air, so people can really make their own mind up about what the new stuff sounds like. Of course we did manage to air a few of the tracks live over the summer when we played at the Hat Factory.

Talking of live stuff we've booked in two shows, the first of which will be at The Castle in Luton, on Saturday 20th November 2010 which is smack bang in the centre of town. For those of you from Luton, it's by Brookes pub and for those of you that don't, I believe it is, 1 Castle Street, Luton. By popular demand I think we will be pulling out a few of the Reverie oldies, as I think we are playing on our own that night.

Also we've confirmed to play the legendary Hope and Anchor in Islington London on Saturday 11th December 2010. Famous for having The Police and an early U2 play there. It's small but has probably one of the best PAs on the scene. Closest tube is Highbury and Islington on the Victoria Line or on the newly branded London Overground. This will be our last show of the year and we're hoping to have physical CDs of our mini-album available at both.

**DISCLAIMER** As we're incredibly unorganised the CDs may not come to fruition although it is our intention. If we don't manage to get our act together this side of Christmas, in the new year we are looking at booking a show in at Cargo in Shoreditch and probably another Luton show so could have them ready by then! We need a manager!

It's here... it's finally here!!

Reverie HQ has been a buzz this week as we finally (yes FINALLY) released out mini-lp or EP - or whatever people call a six track release these days - on Monday 11th October on iTunes, Spotify and on We7. If you haven't downloaded your copy just yet you can download it from here:

We've had some amazing feedback so far and hopefully gives everyone a window into where the band are at these days. It's been great just to capture that moment in these six songs and release them as one entity. Many of you will notice it's a lot more effectsy and less abrasive than a lot of our earlier stuff and I think that's been down to a lot of reasons but mainly it's to do with us feeling we've been following a lot of bands such as The Music, and Bloc Party - rightly or wrongly - and with this release wanted to get back to why we got into music in the first place and do something really soundscape orientated.

Not only this week did we release the EP but we have also been busy confirming... and in some respect fielding offers on shows. So far we have confirmed a show at the Hope & Anchor in Islington London on 26th November, which if your close to a calendar will spy it is a Friday, and we are on at 8.40pm so are quite keen to go out clubbing afterwards. The Garage is down the road and think it's open til 4am so feel free to come down to the show and join us on a party afterwards.

We're looking at a number of shows in Luton and I think we're going to choose only one for this side of Christmas.

New release EP/Mini album

When reading the story of the Hare and the Tortoise I was always taken by the theme. Slow and steady wins the race. I'm not 100% sure this is true anymore with all the instant access we have to everything. If anything I was more taken with the fact that the hare could have a nice little sleep during the race and still come in second place! Not too shabby I'm sure you'd agree.

With the recording process we have definitely taken a 'slow and steady wins the race', pace because as we have recorded and mixed everything ourselves we had to make sure it would sound alright.... we've pretty much finished, it's been mastered and we have a fully fledged EP/mini album ready to roll.

We're provisionally scheduled to release it via label E5 again in October. I think the wait is due to getting it catalogued and up on iTunes and in the shops like Rough Trade and HMV again.

With a new release comes a new show. We're looking into doing something a bit special and preferably free entry. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Oh I better get my new guitar while I think of it!

Sons O' B*tches

You may or may not have heard but my guitars have been stolen... was the Hat Factory gig really that awful that someone felt the need to remove my guitars from me to stop the relentless noise... or more likely (I'm hoping) an opportunist prick. They are easily recognisable and I have the serial numbers of them both... so too do the police - the crime fighting kind not Sting's old band ... although which would get better/quicker results... I'm not sure if we could orchestrate this at such short notice though to test.

So this leaves me, on a personal level, not only gutted that a combination of 4 years worth of saving up the pennies to purchase the said guitars was wasted but on a practical level I now have to replace them.

I'm thinking about having a change from the SG and Les Paul but that begs the question what to get? What make, and more importantly what colour!?! My good friend Banners and I took a trip to Denmark Street to test out some axes. Needless to say this has made the job even harder but I think I've narrowed it down to these reasonable four...

Big Thanks...

... to everyone who came along to the Hat Factory gig we were mega amazed by the turnout - apparently we had more people through the door than the Boom Town Rats a couple of weeks ago! (thank god!!) And even though we were cut shot and only squeezed out 4 songs we hope it was a taster of the style of the new EP we will have coming out soon.

We all went to the Edge nightclub after and they played this mega mix at about 2am-ish that I thought I'd share with everyone in the player below (probably not the exact order as we were drinking snakebites :) )

NEW GIG: Hat Factory - Luton

Finally finally finally we have a show booked! It's only taken us just over a year to get our asses into gear to get gig fit and commit a date we all could do! So via the awesome Tom over at DTA we have confirmed to play at the Hat Factory, on Bute Street in Luton on Friday 18th June 2010.

We're supported by There Were Bears who we've only heard good things about so are looking forward to checking out what the current Luton music scene is vibing off at the moment.

Election

Now as we are still a Luton band we were asked to by Gavin Shuker and Kelvin Hopkins of the Luton Labour party if he could use one of our songs in his new YouTube vid... and here it is:

I think the shots of the town and our tune go really well together - perhaps we are more influenced by L-Town than we originally thought!!

Big Brother / X Factor / Snow

We're so close to finishing our new EP, it's all kind of at a mixing tweaking stage and getting ready for mastering. How we're going to get the music out to everyone is in debate at the moment.

We kind of want to do something a little bit different - so one off vinyl is not on the agenda - and we've had what can only be described as "wacky" ideas which will probably not come to fruition - my favourite so far was to get on Big Brother as a house mate and wear t-shirts with different download links written on them to the individual songs from the EP. Obvious flaws with this would be:

A) would any of us be interesting enough to get on Big Brother
B) would we get voted out before we could wear all the t-shirts
C) would the fame go to Herron's head and he gets a massive crack problem

Another idea was to get on X Factor get to the final and then tell everyone to check out a link and download the entire thing. Firstly the problem here lies in the fact that Gerard is the only one out of the four of us that can actually sing - although Beano does a mean "robot" , so maybe Britain's got talent is the way forward - and also I'm sure Cowell would rain down upon us, although I'd personally love to meet him.

So as you can see we are busy, the hare-brained schemes are coming thick and fast, mainly for jovial purposes and to fill the time where we've been snow bound quite a bit... which has set the whole project behind.

The most exciting part for us is that we are now in the situation of practicing a new bunch of songs for a whole new set. We've already had people asking when the next gig is and we're close to sorting something out, either London or in the motherland of Luton. As Beano is now a Brightonian for uni we may even take the plunge down there. All this is TBC, pie in the sky, hear say (Not 'Popstars') for the moment....

We've made a lot of recording progress over the last few weeks- We've got one new tune done and dusted and another one on the "mixing block". Beano has been beavering away with his mega mixing skills in his down time from uni and we're all getting stuck in to get as much done as possible.

Swine Flu

So I was ill this week- we all thought the worst, ie the now extremely fashionable swine flu, needless to say I seem to be over the worst of it to which the guys now claim to be man flu = Equally highly contagious but without any of the real symptoms apart from sneezing and a hurty throat! I tell you what, I thought I was going to be murdered on the tube- the looks you get when you sniff during rush hour !! ... So we're falling behind with recording because I haven't finished recording some guitar parts... will be on it asap !! Lx

Squashed In The Tube

On the tube this
morning I saw a woman not only get trapped in the closing train doors
but simultaneously spill her coffee on a man! Haha! What are the chances of that. I couldn't help laughing out loud especially as there were so many funny things in the Metro this morning including the really small ticket machine in a car park.
any way I was at Amazing Baby gig last night at Heaven and it was a great gig somewhere I'd love to play! And whilst listening to White Lies this morning I was thinking about their gig at the Magnet club in Berlin I went to last year. We're constantly talking about gigging at the moment and hopefully we'll be happy with our new set soon... We're going for completely new tunes, which is so weird as twe played the old set so much it really had become muscle memory. I don't think I can remember the actual chords to 'On The Fence'. I'm sure there's and A minor in there somewhere.

NEW TUNES!!

Hey everyone hope you're all liking the new tunes. It's a tad different from our usual noise. We've been doing a lot of self recording recently - hence why we've been absent for a while - and Beano's mixing skills are really coming up trumps... especially with the limited and some-what hilarious way we are getting track separation on the drums but we'll save geeky tech muses for another day.
We're thinking about doing something major gig wise and any ideas will be lovingly received. We should also have 'Italian Mob' on the new Vanadalism Begins At Home Compilation which we are very excited about. The last one seems so long ago and now there are so many new bands coming up like Echobox there's plenty of music buzzing round!
